175th Anniversary
The Toronto Horticultural Society was founded on May 1, 1834. That was a long time ago; William IV was King of England, Andrew Jackson was President of the United States and William Lyon Mackenzie was Mayor of Toronto. To celebrate this amazing anniversary the Hort has planned a year of surprises!
Pick up a Legacy Garden Map (available in 2010) and wander through the community gardens supported by the Hort and a selection of public gardens then enjoy the local fare.
We celebrated this year with the Annual Plant Fair that was held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 and the Annual Garden Tour on Sunday, June 7, 2009. Both events are annual affairs and will return in 2010 (see the Events page for details).
Legacy Garden Weekend October 3 & 4— two days of special events in selected gardens featured on the Legacy Garden Map.
Monday, October 5, 2009, we return to our roots—Allan Gardens, the original show piece of the Toronto Horticultural Society. In the morning, local school children will plant spring bulbs that will blossom in 2010, the one-hundredth anniversary of the Palm House followed by an afternoon Open House and a Gala Evening Reception.
