Garden Tour
It’s always an inspiration to see others’ gardens at the beginning of the gardening season. The Hort Garden Tour, an annual event held in early June, is open to all Hort members and the public. Meet old friends on the walk-about and chat with the gardeners themselves about the challenges and successes they face. The gardens will inspire you with plant, shrub and landscape ideas for your own city gardens while you get acquainted with one of Toronto’s many charming neighbourhoods.
Do remember to dress for the weather: comfortable shoes, a sun hat or an umbrella, sunscreen or a jacket. The tour goes on rain or shine. The Garden Tour is a major source of funding for Hort activities, especially the community garden projects. Your support is very much appreciated.
Garden Tour, Sunday, June 9, 2013, 10am - 4pm
The Hort presents a self guided walking tour of beautiful gardens in the Brule Gardens and Riverside Drive area. You will be treated to gardens with amazing views and designs in a very interesting and historical part of the city.
Tickets are available at the Plant Fair, at our meetings in April and May at selected neighbourhood stores until June 8 and at two locations on tour day. Tickets are $18 each and contain a map of the tour area as well as addresses and a brief description of each garden on the route. Please note that not all gardens are wheelchair accessible.
From the Jane subway it is a 10 minute walk west to the first garden on Brule Gardens. We recommend packing a picnic lunch for yourself, which you can eat at Montgomery Park. There will be a refreshment table in the park where you can also get fruit, muffins and water.
There are 2 steep sets of stairs to climb on the route because the gardens border the deep ravines along the Humber, but for those who have bad knees or the like, we suggest carpooling so you can bypass the stairs by stopping the car once at each level. That way you can walk the route easily in 3 sections.
This map shows the ticket selling locations (in red) on the day of the garden tour.
